OK, so what exactly is a ‘Bicycle Engine Kit’?
It’s simple, the bicycle engine kits we have sourced for you come with everything that you’ll need to convert most regular 26” single speed or multi speed mountain bikes into motorized bikes. However, you’ll still be able to pedal the bike and ride like normal.
The engine is started only when you want to use it by releasing the clutch lever. There’s no rope pulling needed! You can stop or start the engine as you ride. Twist grip hand throttle controls speeds from 25 to 30/mph (depending on the gear ratio).
The engine kit comes with a 44 tooth 9 hole chrome racing sprocket with easy to install 9 bolt universal mounting hardware that clamps over the rear wheel hub and spokes. This creates a totally independent drive sprocket and chain that does not interfere with your current drive chain or peddling.
With the built in clutch you maintain full function of the original bike. Pedal, shift, and ride your bike like normal. The engine kit only adds about 19lbs to your bike. When you want to engage the engine simply release the clutch hand lever and the engine springs to life. To power off simply press the included kill switch.

I Don’t Know Anything About Engines, What Skills Do I Require To Fit My Engine Kit Onto My Bike?
No problem, my 14 year old brother, who can barely fit a light bulb, fitted a kit onto his mountain bike in a few hours! All you require is the ability to read basic English, have some simple household tools and an afternoon of your time. So, you don’t need to be a mechanical genius or have any such skills. You just need the following;
1. Basic ability to read English and follow the step-by-step instructions guide (included)
2. Basic tools (e.g. spanners and screwdrivers)
3. 3-5 hours to install the kit, while using easy to follow, detailed step-by-step instructions (included).
4. A mountain bike (without back suspension and a 20 " inch frame size or above with a 70 degree angled v frame and at least 14 inches from the top of the peddle crank to the top tube of the frame). We can supply a suitable bicycle or recommend a suitable supplier if you have any trouble here.Below are some pictures of a sample bike that has the motor kit installed. It took approximately half a day to install and is a great project to work on!

Use Your ‘Transformed Bike’ For Any Purpose .........I use my personal bike to go to work and back, visit friends, everyday shopping and sheer leisure. Its absolutely fantastic, especially going up hills, which is a breeze and definitely better than any electric bike I've had in the past. The best thing about it is there are no engine markings indicating the size of the engine and because its between the frame its hardly noticeable either. Being gray in colour it doesn't really attract much attention and with these new synthetic oils there is virtually no smoke trail to be seen.

The power and the speed are there if you need them, but I'm usually happy trailing along at 15 -20 mph. This engine (GEN II) has a top speed of about 30 MPH (pretty fast on a bicycle). A full tank of unleaded petrol costs around £3.00 and 1 gallon of petrol will give you around 120 miles. How else can you travel 120 miles for the cost of a coffee!!!The sound of the engine when idling is not very loud, more like a put put sound and nothing compared to the screaming sound of a mini motto: They're really irritating.

In most parts of the world a motorized bicycle has the same rights as a bicycle this means no license, no registration and no tax required. Transformer Cycles ships bicycle engine kits all over the world and every country has its own interpretation and laws regarding the use of motorized bicycles on public highways. We recommend you check with your local driving standards agencies and government departments regarding any legality issues specific to your area before riding on public highways.
Q. What is the warranty with your kits ?
All bicycle engine kits sold by Transformer Cycles come with a 90 days factory warranty for the engine only (all other kit parts are covered for 30 days). This means if anything should go wrong with the engine under normal operation as long as you have followed the correct fuel mixture we will repair your engine at no expense to you. Please note warranty covers your purchase, it does not cover shipping cost to send the engine to us and back to you.
It should also be noted here that 2 stroke engines are the simplest engines to repair, for those who know their engines simply send us the damaged part and we will send you replacement parts within the warranty period. Again we will send you the parts at our expense but you agree to pay the postage cost.

Complete motorized bikes (new bike, new engine, cycle computer and stand) can be anything from £500 and upwards.
Q. What is the break in period and what is it for ?
A new engine requires break in time, this means for the first two full tanks of fuel you should not ride for more than half an hour at a time and not higher than 15 miles per hour. This is so the piston rings can be properly seated and other engine components worn in gently. Following a correct break-in procedure is essential for the long running life of your engine. After the engine has broken in power will increase and engine will operate more smoothly.
Q. What is it like on juice (petrol consumption) ?
You can expect to get 120 miles per gallon from a Starfire Generation II engine.
Q. How reliable are the kits?
The kits we sell are the new Starfire Generation II engine kits. These engines have been exhaustively developed, tested and refined over a period of two whole years for improvement and efficiency. No body in America has this kit it was introduced after the 2006 USA import ban and Transformer Cycles are the official distributors for this kit in the United Kingdom.

Q. How do i go about registering a complete motorized bicycle ?
As stated above in most parts of the world this is not required as they are not classed as mopeds. Many countries have loopholes in the law allowing the use of electric and motorized bicycles as normal bicycles. But if the DSA or DVLA in your area states you need to do this then you can use the serial number for the engine (only grubee engines come with serial numbers, copycat engines don't ) or you may use the serial number below the bottom bracket of the bike along with your sales receipt to register it, the procedure may be slightly different depending on where you live.
Q. How clean are they ?
You should bear in mind that we are dealing with two strokes, so yes there will be some odors. But once the engine has broken in properly there is hardly any visible smoke and with these new synthetic oils they run very clean. Considering the mileage they can do on a gallon of fuel the amount of pollution is very little.
Q. I have a big fat ass, will it push me up a hill ?

Important Information:
It has come to our attention that someone is going around misleading people into thinking that Generation 1 kits come with steel piston sleeves and Angle fire heads.
The only engine that has a steel piston sleeve is the Starfire Generation II Engine, all others are chrome lined piston sleeves.
An angle fire head is a feature specific to the Starfire Generation II engine only. No other kit has this, this means that the spark plug goes into the head at an angle. On first Generation kits the the sparkplug enters the head vertically this is not an Angle fire head.
Wherever you buy your kit from make sure it is covered by warranty, and make sure you can get parts for your investment in the future and having a reliable source will make all the difference. Remember with bicycle engine kits you get what you pay for, a cheap kit will be fun for a while at the most.
For U. K customers a very important NOTE: if you decide to buy your kit from abroad remember there is no warranty for kits purchased from outside a sellers country. If you have a problem it will be very difficult to sort out. Also bear in mind that you will have to pay customs charges for packages coming into the U. K, this is something many people forget.

This product has been manufactured to strict quality control standards. For customer assurance there is a 90 day engine limited warranty starting from the date of original purchase from Transformer Cycles. Warranty approval is subject to factory inspection and only the defective part will be replaced not the complete engine.
In the unlikely event the engine should develop a problem within 90 days, buyer will package just the engine and carburetor assembly in a box and send it to us by recorded delivery.
You agree to allow us a minimum of 30 days to repair your engine and send it back to you.
We will repair the engine and request payment for the return postage by recorded delivery.
When your payment for return postage is received we will post your item and send you a tracking number by email.
Warranty will be void if the correct ratio of petrol and oil is not used leading to engine seizure.
Please note 90 days warranty is for the engine only, all other kit parts are covered for 30 days from the date of delivery..
Breaking headbolts and destroying thread due to overtightening is not covered by warranty.
All items sent by courier must be checked before they are signed for, if damaged you must write damaged in the signature box otherwise insurance claims will not be accepted by the courier company.
